FARMLAND
We have started the transition to organic status under the guidance of the Soil Association.
Our aim is to restock the farm land at Trevenna with rare breads and organic vegetables using biodynamic and rotation farming principles.
HEDGEROWS
There are over 300,000 miles of hedges in Cornwall, some of which run through Trevenna, and form our largest semi natural habitat. The high wildlife value of Cornish Hedges results from their individual and collective importance.
Individually a Cornish Hedge is a structure that provides many differing habitats, microhabitats and a sanctuary within a landscape which has been converted into intensive arable use.
Wildflowers seen in the Cornish Hedges of Trevenna include red campions, blue bells, foxgloves, ground ivy, woundworts, common violets, ox-eye daisies, cow parsley and wood sage. Hedge top trees and scrub on the farm include hawthorn, blackthorn, gorse, oaks, ash, Cornish Elm, sycamore, holly, elder, hazel, honeysuckle and brambles.
Free copies of ‘Wildlife in Cornish Hedges’, are available from the Farm Shop.
